It’s time for the Mother City of Cape Town’s whisky fans to get ready to welcome the Whisky Live Showroom, the exciting boutique-style tasting event that will bring some of the world’s finest whiskies to the city from 18 – 20 June 2015.
This intimate showcase of more than 100 expressions of whisky will be hosted at one of the city’s most popular venues, The Lookout (V&A Waterfront), the perfect opportunity for a pre-Father’s Day outing, or Father’s Day gift shopping.
Highlights include the non-chill filtered malt, Arran, presented by passionate Scot, Andy Bell – as well as the well-known Dullstroom trio from Wild About Whisky who will present Tomatin, Tullibardine and Smokehead. For those who prefer a less peaty but equally interesting whisky, Glenrothes is another new addition. Ian Chang, Master Distiller of the Taiwanese Kavalan, will present its full range. This is no small event, given that Kavalan Soloist Vinho Barrique beat off competition from around the globe to be named the best single malt at the 2015 World Whiskies Awards.
Mickey Baloyi, ‘the African Scot’ will present six expressions of Glenbrynth, including its 40-year old single malt, while a selection of peated malts of distinction including Laphroaig and Bowmore will also be newly available at the Showroom. Other well-known whiskies available for sampling include Glenmorangie (including the Quinta Ruban), The Glenlivet, Chivas Regal, The Balvenie, Glenfiddich, Glen Grant and the ever-quirky Black Bottle.
Local whisky expert Candice Baker will present The Macallan’s 1824 Series, and master distiller Andy Watts will guide visitors through the ever-popular and 100% South African Bains Cape Mountain Whisky and Three Ships. Whisky legend and kilt-resplendent Keeper of the Quaich, Pierre Meintjes will present Bunnahabhain, while Brian Glass, Keeper of the Quaich and all-round font of whisky knowledge will expertly guide fans of the dram through a tasting of Scottish Leader’s newly-launched Signature.
Checkers LiquorShop House of Fine Whiskies will exclusively offer the Glendronagh Private Barrel 20 year old, the Glenburgie Private Barrel 16 year old, The Glenlivet Nadurro Allorosso 16 year old, and the Aberlour 12 year old expressions for tasting. If that’s not enough to entice connoisseurs and pique the curiosity of newcomers, there are a number of stands whose products complement the aspirational whisky lifestyle displaying an array of ‘the finer things in life’ for sampling and purchase.
Twisp will cleverly pair their electronic cigarettes with whisky, while a range of premium cigars and all the intriguing required cigar paraphernalia will be available from The Cigar Club. If you want to treat your significant other – or perhaps your dad – an impressive array of fragrances from Bvlagri, Hermes and Issey Miyaki to name a few, will be available for sampling and purchase.
Innis & Gunn craft beers will also be presented by the ever-entertaining Jason Duganzich at the Whisky Live Showroom given that they are matured in casks previously used for aging Kentucky bourbon thus bringing the worlds of whisky and beer together in a delicious, refreshing pint. Innis & Gunn Original was introduced to South Africa in 2014, and Innis & Gunn Rum Finish and Innis & Gunn Toasted Oak IPA will also be available.
