The Big Sock Story

Mandela Day is a call to action for individuals – for people everywhere – to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, one small step at a time, just as Mr Mandela did. Mr Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. All we are asking is that everyone gives 67 minutes of their time, whether it’s supporting your chosen charity or serving your local community. The overarching objective of Mandela Day is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so build a global movement for good. Ultimately it seeks to empower communities everywhere.

Following the success of Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday celebrations in London’s Hyde Park in June 2008, it was decided to celebrate Mr Mandela’s birthday each year with a day dedicated to his life’s work and that of his charitable organisations, and to ensure his legacy continues forever.

Socks are something that most people take for granted. A set of knitted socks can truly mean so much. We are presented with the opportunity to make a massive difference with a small gift on Mandela Day.When Mandela Day comes around we find ourselves right in the middle of the South African winter, and the nights get cold. The simplest things are often the most important. The need for warmth is vital and socks are something we all need.

Taking a chapter out of Nelson Mandela’s book we take a personal approach to getting involved. The Inrichmint Media Studios directors will walk the streets with the purpose of touching lives in the smallest way. Inrichmint Initiative, the corporate responsibility division of Freer Productions and sister division alongside Inrichmint Media, team up with Impahla Clothing manufacturer for the likes of Uzzi and The Foschini Group taking socks to the needy on Mandela Day.

We take to the streets in the Cape Town City Bowl to hand out socks to the homeless. Inrichmint Media Studios will take a day out of office to focus on making a difference on Mandela Day. Every little bit helps and by handing a pair of socks to someone less fortunate on Mandela Day shows we really care. Judy Rajoo and Jacqueline Freer of Freer Productions understand the value of giving back to the community and look for ways in which they can get involved in the most hands on way with the goal of paying it forward. Backed by Impahla Clothing the pair are proud to stand for change and be the change we all want to see.

If you would like to help us hand out socks on the day … meet us at 10:00/10:30 and come help us hand out a little winter warmth to those less fortunate. We are meeting at Truth Coffee, Prestwich Memorial, 1 Somerset Road ,Green Point, corner Buitengracht, Cape Town, South Africa. Contact Jacqueline Freer on +27826290226.
