vintagestressreliefStress is a normal thing that we will all experience at some point in our lives; it is a psycho-physiological response to a perceived threat. Your body wishes to protect you and a stress response is its way of doing it, this is very useful when we are in danger. But, stress starts to become a problem when we start feeling stress about non-life threatening situations. We need to differentiate between “good” stress and “bad” stress. Some major external stressors to name a few, include death of a loved one, divorce, getting married, losing your job, public speaking and moving house.

Stress affects us all in different ways, as individuals, we are able to deal with different levels of stress and have different natural coping methods. Stress can have harsh negative effects on the body such as headaches, back pain, chronic fatigue and digestive problems; it can affect your immune system, making it harder to fight off infection. It can increase the risk of strokes and heart attacks as well as diseases, skin conditions and sleep disturbances. Stress can also triggers addictive behaviour, such as smoking, alcoholism, drug abuse and overeating.  These can clearly lead to death and disability as well as leaving you vulnerable to Anxiety and Depression.
