Raith Gourmet is well known amongst Capetonians as the best place to stock up on any and all German fare. Taken over by Helmut Raith who moved to the Cape from Windhoek in 1989 to open his own butchery, Raith Gourmet has been in the Garden Centre since the 1970’s. Whether you are looking to sit down, grab a take-away or do your weekly grocery shopping, Raith is the place to go. With branches in both Garden’s Centre and High Constantia Village, each shop brings its own unique atmosphere and clientele. Under the new guidance of Namibian born German, Chris, Raith has gone from success to success.

With a butcher, bakery and delicatessen all under one roof, there is nothing that you cannot find at Raith. Amongst the vast array of meat selections in our butchery you will find cuts of beef, ostrich, lamb, pork, chicken, duck and game. The German element is, of course, not lost with Veal or Pork Schnitzel on offer as well as beech Smoked Pork Knuckle and Eisbein. All the butchery meat is ethically sourced and only of the highest quality.

The delicatessen boasts some of the finest cold meats, cheeses, mustards and barrel sauerkraut to name a few. Amongst the cold meats customers can find the widest array of German sausages and salami as well as a variety of cold cut ham and beef. The world of cheese is no different with some of the finest imported French and Italian cheese on offer to customers.

Crossing over the shop to the bakery with all of its unctuous smells, you will find a wide selection of German breads. Delicacies such as Spelt, Bauern, Dinkel, Sovital, Baguette’s, Sour Dough bread, Brezel rolls and double baked Sour Dough can be found daily in the bakery. All items are baked fresh and with lots of love. For those with a sweet tooth, seasonal items such a summer berry tarts, gingerbread men, mince pies, and Stollen can be found in the bakery as well as throughout the shop.

For people wanting to take a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday, Raith welcomes you to indulge in our sit-down menu. There is always a special to choose from and a draught of German beer to be had. In addition, picnics can be arranged from our deli counter with a vegetarian and child friendly option.
